Take the ‘A’ Train written by Billy Strayhorn
This standard was comissioned by Duke Ellington and became Duke’s theme song. However, I’m double-tagging this based on the live version with Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and the Duke Ellington Orchestra from 1957. It is the version I listened to over and over when I was about 18.
Backing vocals by Boo.

That’s funny. The girl who was the singer in my band has a cat named Scout. Oh, and this version is a jem… er, gem.
Nice one, Sessionman7! At first, I thought it was just a regular jazz video, but then… there was a CAT!
chocolate rain and a cat scat singing in the same thread. wow.
Cool daddio, we are frozen. *snapping fingers* I liked it, I’m something of a purist though and I’m gonna stick with the Duke’s version.
You put the “cat” in scat.
You should move away from the mic to breathe in.
Ella would be proud. This required a lot of high energy and enthusiasm, and it comes through on the delivery. (I know it wouldn’t have come across so well without the stellar contributions of Boo:)
